Bear Lake Watch
Board of Directors Meeting
Bear Lake Watch Board of Directors held their Fall meeting September
17th 2003.
The main discussion centered on Water Quality. Recent reports show that
for 6 months of every year the pollutants in the lake are over the EPA
guidelines. It was concluded that there is a need to know what is being
done about this and what are the long-term effects on the lake. This
reconfirmed that there is a need for a scientific model of the lake
and that BLW should continue to pursue avenues to make it a reality.
Efforts continue to get consensous on the Amended Bear Lake Settlement
Agreement.
The summer’s efforts to raise the public awareness of lake issues
were reviewed. Everyone felt BLW should continue along the same lines
next year - including the Adopt a Park program with Utah, but try to
combine it with clean up for non-park beaches also.
On Aug. 30th Friends of Bear Lake voted to join BLW. That will happen
October 1st, and efforts will be made to incorporate their people.
On the administrative front, the board discussed invitations for two
new board members, also a need for an executive director position. The
position was offered to David & Claudia Cottle with details to be
worked out.
