Located on the southeast boarder of Idaho, Bear Lake is referred to as the “Caribbean of the Rockies”.
Our goal is to construct and connect over 50 miles of pathway around the entire lake so that tourists and residents will have a safe way to enjoy the beauty of the area while recreating with family and friends. The path will provide a conduit for pedestrians and bicyclists to use between the campgrounds, summer homes and the small communities around the lake. Development of the path will also improve the safety for motorists along US Highway 89 and 30, which can become extremely busy during the summer months.
We will also utilize the path to provide information about the rich history of the people, plants and animals that inhabit the Bear Lake Valley and the efforts underway today to preserve it’s beauty.
To-date only six miles of the path has been constructed, with a few additional miles scheduled for construction the summer of 2009. Although individuals and communities have been working on various sections of the pathway for many years, a formal coordination group is just now forming.
Until the formal organization is operational, information about the pathway and opportunities for volunteers can be found here at the Bear Lake Watch website.
